Yoga for Children
There are a wealth of benefits from offering yoga to children at school. It can help reduce stress and anxiety and support children to be more mindful - noticing their feelings and emotions and taking control over how they respond. Yoga helps to improve the memory function in both adults and children, a direct benefit of which would be a better academic performance in children. It also helps to improve children’s attention span and focus. Balance, flexibility and posture are developed and through the physical practice of yoga children can maintain a healthy weight.
As an experienced primary teacher I can offer yoga classes for children as part of your PE curriculum as well as workshops for the whole school or particular year groups. I am also able to run before and after school clubs for primary aged children. I am fully insured, DBS checked and have completed children’s yoga training with Children Do Yoga.
I have provided yoga workshops and clubs for Streetsbrook Infant School, Sharmans Cross Junior School, Monkspath Junior & Infant School, George Fentham School, John Willmott School, Swanshurst School and University College Birmingham as part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme.

Supporting staff wellbeing
As well as supporting children’s wellbeing I can also work with your school to support staff.
It has never been more important to focus on and ensure the wellbeing of teaching staff. Promoting staff wellbeing as a school priority will lead to greater staff retention levels, less sick leave, and lower supply teacher costs.
How Fuel and Flow can help your school
After spending 15 years as a primary school teacher, including 5 years as a senior leader, I have personally experienced the positive effects of yoga on my own health and wellbeing. Staff at my previous school benefitted from taking part in weekly yoga sessions which I delivered after the school day. As a result they experienced greater flexibility and strength, achieved clarity of mind and most importantly, took an hour to focus on themselves without having to leave the school building.
I can offer tailored packages suited to your school, whether it be a one off session as part of INSET or staff meetings or a longer course of sessions offered on the school site. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Encouraging everyone to look after their mental health makes sense for schools; teachers need to be looked after so that they can do the best job for their pupils.
If you are interested in yoga sessions for any of your school community please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
